A new study discovered three habits that are essential to weight loss. Women who participated in the study found that they were able to lose weight successfully because they monitored their food intake in a journal, did not pass from eating meals and avoided eating out.

Findings at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington highlighted the importance of food diaries to people who aim to lose extra pounds.

Researchers note that women who engaged in the three practices lost more pounds than those who did not adopt. They add that self-monitoring through a food journal, eating regularly and maintaining a healthy food diet play a very vital role to those people who want to lose weight effectively.

The average age of the participants was 58 and their habits were tracked by the researchers. The study shows that those women who diligently monitored what and how they ate foods and drink beverages through food journal writing lost about six pounds more than the other participants who did not follow the same strategy.

Moreover, the study reveals that people are less likely to lose weight when skipping meals because they are more likely to become hungrier when the next meal comes, which can lead to overeating.
