There have been many theories on how to effectively lose weight. However, the diet that is best for weight loss is still unknown. But a new study discovers the type of diet that people often follow to lose more pounds.

Traditionally, a person is recommended to follow a low-calorie diet that is high in carbohydrates and low in fat combined with regular exercise. However, many people think that a diet that is high in protein and low in carbohydrates is the most effective when aiming to lose weight dramatically. These two weight loss methods have been involved on a debate on which diet is effective.

A study conducted in the year 2007, which compared a number of popular diets for weight loss, revealed that people who followed the low-carbohydrate diet dramatically lost more extra pounds in just one year than those who complied with the high-carbohydrate diet. The findings of the study discovered that the hormonal changes caused by a diet that is low in carbohydrates promotes fat loss, and that fat storage is encouraged by sticking to a high-carbohydrate diet. This is attributed to the possibility that there are fewer total calories taken by people following the low-carbohydrate diet.

Nevertheless, it is unknown whether low-carbohydrate diets would help a person achieve weight loss in the long run. There are still several points that a person needs to consider to ultimately lose weight.
